CAREY — The Carey FFA Chapter recently showcased its agricultural business knowledge in the grain mer-chandisinåçg Career Development Event, an online exam that tested stu-dents on key concepts relat-ed to grain marketing and risk management. Competing against 54 teams from across Ohio, Carey FFA secured a 20th-place finish.
The grain merchandising CDE challenges participants with real-world scenarios involving futures markets, basis calculations, hedging strategies and grain contract management. This competi-tion provides students with valuable insight into the financial aspects of agricul-ture, preparing them for careers in agribusiness and commodity marketing.
Individually, Carey FFA members performed well among 419 competitors statewide. Tate Fredritz led the team with a 35th-place finish, closely followed by Emily Weber in 38th. Rounding out the team were Erin Pahl, Gabby Summit and Aaron Lortz.
This competition allowed Carey FFA members to enhance their understand-ing of grain marketing strategies and sharpen their analytical skills in agricul-tural finance. Their strong performance reflects their dedication to learning and applying essential agribusi-ness principles.
The Carey FFA is grateful to Peggy Brodman of Sunrise Cooperative for spending an evening helping to the team.
