Ohio to invest $15M on 35-mile self-driving test Posted on December 1, 2016 0 DUBLIN (AP) — Gov. John Kasich says the state will invest $15 million to support research in self-driving highway technology along a 35-mile stretch of an Ohio road. The Republican governor announced the investment Wednesday in conjunction with a self-driving truck made by Otto heading out on its first run along U.S. Route 33 between Dublin and East Liberty. A driver was going along as backup. Officials say that four-lane section of Route 33 northwest of Columbus will become a corridor where technologies can be safely tested in real-life traffic, aided by a fiber-optic cable network and sensor systems slated for installation next year. Leading automotive research centers and local governments in the region are also involved. The self-driving truck also is slated to travel on the Ohio Turnpike later this week.
