Donald “Don” Clair Binau Posted on January 3, 2018 0 Donald “Don” Clair Binau Donald “Don” Clair Binau, age 90, of Upper Sandusky, passed away peacefully at home Saturday, Dec. 30, 2017. Visitation is 2-5 p.m. Saturday at Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, with a private service for family and friends to be conducted at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Brian Arnold officiating. In lieu of flowers, family is requesting donations be made to the Kevin A. Binau Scholarship Fund administered by the Crawford County Community Foundation and may be sent to Lucas-Batton, 476 S. Sandusky Ave., Upper Sandusky, OH 43351. Verify Your Subscription Don was born Oct. 11, 1927, in Lovell to Willis and Lela Binau, both of whom are deceased. He married his beloved wife, Dorothy Gabriel, on Jan. 1, 1949, and she passed away Jan. 13, 2007. He is survived by his three sons, Dan (Kathy) Binau, of Columbus; Richard (Pamela) Binau, of Fremont; and Brian (Sara) Binau, of Houston, Texas; a daughter-in-law, Suzanne Binau, of Powell; nine grandchildren, Ellie Binau, Jake Binau, Sara Celek, Erin Binau, Ryan Binau, Kristen Binau, Kelsey Taylor, Kate Binau and Alexis Hebel: nine great-grandchildren, Claira, Carli, Kevin, Ethan, Elijah, Christopher, Eliana, Knox and Nash; a sister-in-law, Martha Bennett; a brother, Gene Binau, and a sister, Phyllis Weaver, both of Upper Sandusky; and a dear friend, Jean Byrd, of Upper Sandusky. Don was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Kevin Binau; a brother, Melford Binau; and sister, Peg Orians. Don graduated from Salem High School, where he played basketball. He later served in the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne as a paratrooper during World War II. Following his time in the service, Don was a farmer, a banker, a bank director, an insurance agent and then President and CEO of the Ohio Mutual Group in Bucyrus from 1965-1995. He was past president of the Ohio Association of Mutual Insurance Companies. He was past director of the United Bank in Bucyrus, and a member of the BPOE No. 83 in Upper Sandusky, the Bucyrus Rotary Club and Warpole Lodge No. 176 F&AM, and a longstanding member of John Stewart United Methodist Church. Don lived life to the fullest and was a loving family man. For many years, Don and his wife, Dorothy, spent countless hours on the road traveling to watch their grandchildren in their sports, dancing and other activities. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family in Florida, taking long walks, boating on Ellis Lake and dining out with friends. Don also was an avid fan of the Ohio State University Buckeyes and attended many basketball and football games over the years.
