Carey’s Simons gets 500th K Posted on May 2, 2024 0 Mackenzie Simons CAREY — Mackenzie Simons recorded her 500th career strikeout and picked up the win in relief as Carey rallied past Buckeye Central 12-7 in a Northern 10 Athletic Conference softball game Wednesday at Carey. The Blue Devils (12-8, 8-3 N10) trailed 7-3 after the Buckettes (5-10, 3-7 N10) scored three runs in the fourth inning. Carey came back with five runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead and added on from there with a run in the fifth and three in the sixth. Simons (11-7) gave up just one hit with three strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings of relief of starter Rylee Row, who gave up four earned runs on seven hits and four walks with two strikeouts. Riley Brodman doubled twice, singled, scored three times and drove in four runs for Carey. Row doubled twice with two RBIs. Kynlee Phillips, Tylinn Stoll, Kayden Hertel and Danika Hanna all had two hits. Grace Collene singled twice and scored two runs for Buckeye Central. Aleyse Siefert singled, doubled and had an RBI. AJ Jury doubled and scored two runs. Collene (4-3) took the loss, allowing 10 earned runs on 16 hits and a walk with seven strikeouts in six innings. Carey hosts Bucyrus at 5 p.m. Friday.
