Mohawk competes in Early Season Invite

OBETZ — Brayden Cleveland was 32nd to lead Mohawk in the season opening OHSAA Early Season Invitational cross country meet Saturday at Fortress Obetz.

The returning state qualifier finished in 17:54.7 in the Division II/III boys race, which featured many of the top programs in the state. Freshman Myer Kirian had an impressive high school debut by finishing 59th in 18:23.5. Two other freshmen followed him: Phoenix Nally in 148th place in 20:05.6 and Tyler Coppus in 252nd place in 22:40.9. Marty Justen completed the team score by placing 257th in 22:46.4.

Marlington senior Colin Cernasky was the individual winner in 15:59.3, and his team won the team title with 97 points. Oakwood was second with 164.

Addison Horner led Mohawk’s girls by taking 38th in 22:00.0. Freshman Claire Johnson was 62nd in 22:28.1, Lilly Lawhorn came in 189th in 26:09.9, and Isabel Lawson finished 245th in 29:16.8.

Once again, Marlington had the race winner. Irelyn Johnson, a freshman, finished first in 18:23.6. Lexington was the team champion 100-140 over Marlington.
