Brock Montgomery is the All-Daily Chief-Union boys golf player of the year for the third straight season, while Wynford’s Michael Powers is the coach of the year.

A senior, Montgomery capped his career with an All-Ohio fourth-place finish in the Division II state tournament with a two-round 6-over-par 150 at Firestone Country Club’s North Course. The Northern 10 Athletic Conference player of the year for a third season in a row, Montgomery led the league by more than 3.5 strokes with a 35.13 adjusted nine-hole average. He set an N10 tournament record by shooting a 7-under-par 65 at Woody Ridge Golf Course and followed that up with individual sectional and district championships, earning Northwest District player of the year honors for the second straight season.

Powers led Wynford to its second N10 title in the past three years and was named the league coach of the year for the second time. After a slow start, the Royals won the final four N10 Shootouts to finish with a 38-4 record and then capped off their N10 championship by winning the tournament title. The Royals just missed advancing out of the sectional tournament with a fourth-place finish but did send senior one individual to compete at Stone Ridge Golf Course in Bowling Green.

Joining Montgomery on the All-DC-U golf team are Mohawk’s Lance Frankart and Hunter Haynes, Wynford’s Wes Prenger and Clay Rogers, and Riverdale’s Nathan Alge. The All-DC-U golf team is selected based on averages in league matches.

Frankart, a senior, finished his final season with a 38.88 average, ranking second, and he second in the league’s new points format to earn All-N10 first-team honors. Frankart’s best round was an even-par 35, and he finished second in the N10 tournament with an even-par 72. Frankart tied for medalist honors in the sectional tournament and advanced to districts, shooting a 78 that put him one stroke out of state qualifying.

Prenger, a senior, ranked third in the area and in the N10 with a 40.38 nine-hole average. He also was third in points in the league to earn All-N10 first team honors. His best N10 round of the year was an even-par 36, and he went on to shoot a 79 in sectionals to earn a spot in the district tournament, where he capped his career with an 88.

Alge, a junior, posted a 40.5 average in his three 18-hole Blanchard Valley Conference tournaments, good enough for All-BVC second-team honors. His best showing in BVC play was a 79. Alge was an individual qualifier for district play with an 80 in sectionals, and he had a solid round of 80 there that put him three shots out of state qualifying.

Rogers, a freshman, ranked fourth in the N10 with a 40.88 average and was fifth in points to earn All-N10 first-team honors. He had a pair of 39s for his top scores in league play and then followed with a third-place 75 in the league tournament. His season ended with an 86 in sectionals.

Haynes, a senior, had a 42.13 average and scored 110 points in N10 play, both tied for sixth, and that earned him a spot on the All-N10 first team. Haynes’ best round in league play was a 2-over-par 37. He shot an 84 in the N10 tournament and followed with an 80 in sectionals to qualify for districts, where he finished in the top 25 with an 82. His superior postseason play earned him the tiebreaker for the final spot on the All-DC-U first team.

Earning honorable mention with the next-best averages were Carey junior Chase Mullholand with a 42.13 average, Upper Sandusky junior Arden Stansbery with a 43.25 average, Wynford senior Briar Ridge with a 43.43 average, Carey sophomore Anthony Resendez with a 44.25 average, Carey senior Brody Baker with a 44.38 average and Wynford senior Drew Johnson with a 44.38 average.
