Rams’ Walton, Devils’ O’Flaherty lead All-N10 girls basketball team

Upper Sandusky’s Grace Walton and Carey’s Keith O’Flaherty took top honors on the All-Northern 10 Athletic Conference girls basketball team as player and coach of the year, respectively.

Walton, a junior guard, leads the N10 in scoring (14.6 points per game), assists (4.1), steals (4.2) and 3-point percentage (41.6). She also is among the league leaders in rebounds (3.9), field goal percentage (44.8) and free-throw percentage (71.9).

O’Flaherty led Carey to its first N10 girls basketball championship since 2016, taking the Blue Devils from 8-16 overall and 4-10 in the N10 in his first season to 17-7 and 8-6 last year and finally to 20-3 and 11-3 this season. The Blue Devils overcame a two-game deficit in the league standings by winning their final three league games and currently have won six straight while securing their second straight sectional championship.

Local players joining Walton on the All-N10 first team include Carey’s Kynlee Phillips and Riley Yost, Mohawk’s Mia Miller and Wynford’s Caroline Sheldon.

Phillips, a senior forward, ranks among the top eight in the N10 in points (11.3), rebounds (5.8) and field goal percentage (52.4). She has added averages of 1.2 assists and 1.0 steal per game.

Yost, a junior guard, excels with her versatility and is among the N10 leaders in points (9.4), rebounds (6.6), assists (3.5), steals (3.0), field goal percentage (37.9) and free-throw accuracy (61.3%).

Miller, a senior forward, paces the N10 in rebounding at 11.5 per game and blocks at 1.5 per game and is second with a 52.3% field goal percentage. She averages 7.2 points, 1.6 steals and 1.4 assists per game.

Sheldon, a freshman guard, made more 3-pointers in the regular season than any other player in the N10 with 70 and did so with 37.2% accuracy. She averaged 12.1 points, 3.4 assists and 2.6 steals per game.

Bucyrus senior guard Brook Dennison and Colonel Crawford junior guard Mira Holt rounded out the first team.

Second-team selections included Mohawk’s Gracie Clouse and Josie Granata, Upper Sandusky’s Addy Newman and Wynford’s Brooke Frombaugh.

Clouse, a senior guard, averaged 7.8 points, 2.3 assists and 2.0 steals per game and shot 39.8% overall, including 30.4% on 3-pointers, all of those numbers ranking among the N10 leaders.

Granata, also a senior guard, led the Warriors with an 8.6 points-per-game scoring average and averaged 2.3 assists and 2.4 steals while making 30 3-pointers.

Newman, a junior guard, averages 7.3 points, 1.8 assists and 2.1 steals per game and has shot 28.3% from long range and 66.7% from the foul line.

Frombaugh, a freshman forward, was second in the N10 in rebounding at 10.9 per game and averaged 10.0 points and 1.4 blocks per game while shooting 48.1% from the field and 62.1% at the foul line.

Honorable mention was given to Carey’s Rylee Row, Mohawk’s AJ Chevalier, Upper Sandusky’s Madison Hart and Wynford’s Maradath Engler.

Row, a senior forward, averages 6.7 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.9 steals per game. She has shot 41.7% from the field and 61.4% on free throws.

Chevalier, a senior guard, contributed 5.4 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game.

Hart, a sophomore forward, has averages of 5.5 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.1 steals per game and has shot 43.0% from the field.

Engler, a sophomore guard, averaged 7.6 points, 3.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 2.6 steals per game and shot 29.6% on 3-pointers and 63.2% at the foul line.
