Van Buren blanks Riverdale to clinch BVC softball title

VAN BUREN — Van Buren clinched the Blanchard Valley Conference softball title by beating Riverdale 9-0 on Wednesday at Riverdale.

The Black Knights (13-3, 7-0 BVC) scored three times in the third inning, twice in the fourth, once in the fifth and three times in the sixth.

Shelbee Atchison doubled twice, singled and drove in three runs, while Madison Martin homered and drove in three runs. Jaxon Hill had a double among two hits, and Isabelle Miller singled twice and scored two runs.

Martin was the winning pitcher, throwing a two-hit shutout with nine strikeouts and five walks.

Addie Farmer (9-8) took the loss, giving up seven earned runs on 11 hits and three walks without a strikeout.

Farmer and Mackenzie Furr had the only two hits for the Falcons (9-8, 5-3 BVC).

Riverdale plays at 5 p.m. Friday at Kenton.
